01 — Overview

Description

Pure thymol microencapsulated in a lipid or starch matrix for feed mill compatibility. Delivers concentrated phenolic antimicrobial activity at lower inclusion rates than crude essential oils, with reliable through-pellet retention.

Free-flowing white to off-white granules or beads. The encapsulation matrix protects the volatile thymol through pelleting at conditioning temperatures up to 85 degrees C and releases the active in the small intestine.

We supply feed-grade encapsulated Thymol from manufacturers in China holding ISO, FAMI-QS, and other certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include 25 percent and 50 percent active in lipid coating, and 10 percent and 20 percent in starch or maltodextrin matrix.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering thymol assay, release profile, moisture, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Thymol is the principal phenolic active in thyme essential oil (Thymus vulgaris) and is also present in oregano oil. It acts on bacterial membranes by integrating into the phospholipid bilayer, increasing permeability, and dissipating proton gradients.

Pure synthesized or isolated thymol allows precise dosing and consistent activity that crude essential oils cannot match, because plant material varies in phenol content by season, chemotype, and growing region. Encapsulation preserves the volatile and reactive phenol through conditioning, pelleting, and storage.

Antimicrobial spectrum is broad against Gram-positive pathogens including Clostridium and Staphylococcus, with moderate activity against Gram-negative species. Resistance development is slow because the mechanism is physical disruption of the membrane rather than inhibition of a specific protein target.

Approved as a feed flavoring in the EU and registered as a phytogenic feed additive in most major livestock markets.

03 — Applications

Where it is used

  • Broiler feeds for control of Clostridium perfringens and necrotic enteritis
  • Layer feeds for intestinal microbial modulation and shell quality maintenance
  • Piglet weaner feeds in antibiotic-alternative programs
  • Calf starter feeds and milk replacers
  • Aquaculture feeds (shrimp, finfish)
  • Coccidiostat-rotation programs in poultry production
  • Component of multi-phenolic phytogenic blends
  • Premium organic and antibiotic-free livestock programs
