Description
A triglyceride of butyric acid (three butyrate molecules esterified to a glycerol backbone). Tributyrin delivers butyrate to the lower intestine through pancreatic lipase hydrolysis rather than gastric release, giving more efficient hindgut targeting than salt forms.
Slightly viscous oily liquid in pure form, or free-flowing powder when adsorbed onto a silica or starch carrier. Characteristic butyric odor is masked in carrier-adsorbed and encapsulated forms.
We supply feed-grade Tributyrin from manufacturers in China holding ISO, FAMI-QS, and other certifications relevant to the product and production.
Common market grades include 99 percent liquid for premix use, 50 percent powder adsorbed onto silica or starch, and 30 percent powder on a maltodextrin or whey carrier.
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering assay, free fatty acid, peroxide value, heavy metals, and microbiology.
Introduction
Tributyrin is the natural triglyceride form of butyric acid and occurs in trace amounts in milk fat. As a feed additive it provides three molecules of butyrate per molecule of glyceride, giving roughly three times the butyrate-by-weight yield of Sodium Butyrate when fully hydrolyzed.
The key advantage over salt forms is the release mechanism. Tributyrin passes intact through the acidic stomach and is hydrolyzed by pancreatic lipase in the small intestine, releasing butyrate progressively along the intestinal tract rather than at a single point. The glycerol backbone is metabolized as energy and the released butyrate enters the same biochemical pathways as endogenous butyrate from fiber fermentation.
Tributyrin is odorless in the intact triglyceride form, which simplifies feed mill handling compared with uncoated salt forms. Adsorbed and encapsulated powder products further improve flowability and premix stability.
Regulatory status: approved as a feed material or feed additive in the EU, the US, China, and most major livestock markets.

- Layer feeds to improve egg shell quality and intestinal health
- Aquaculture feeds for shrimp, tilapia, and salmonids
- Calf starter and milk replacer formulations
- Companion animal diets for gut health support
- Antibiotic-alternative programs in markets with AGP restrictions
- Component of multi-active gut health premixes alongside organic acids and essential oils
