Description
The calcium salt of butyric acid, an alternative to Sodium Butyrate for diets where additional sodium loading is undesirable, particularly in layer and broiler breeder applications where shell quality is sensitive to electrolyte balance.
White to off-white free-flowing powder with a characteristic butyric odor (reduced or absent in coated grades).
We supply feed-grade Calcium Butyrate from manufacturers in China holding ISO, FAMI-QS, and other certifications relevant to the product and production.
Common market grades include 98 percent uncoated powder, fat-coated 50 percent for upper-tract pass-through, and microencapsulated 70 percent for hindgut targeting.
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering assay, calcium content, moisture, and microbiology.
Introduction
Calcium Butyrate occupies the same functional space as Sodium Butyrate, delivering butyrate to enterocytes for energy and signaling. The choice between sodium, calcium, and magnesium salts is driven by the rest of the diet mineral profile rather than by butyrate action itself, which is identical across the three salts.
The calcium form is preferred in layer applications because additional dietary sodium can reduce eggshell breaking strength and increase egg sweating during storage. The calcium contribution from the additive itself is modest at typical inclusion rates (200 to 1000 grams per ton) and does not require recalculation of the macromineral premix.
Coated forms target the lower intestine in the same way as coated Sodium Butyrate, using fat coating, ethyl cellulose, or microencapsulation to bypass gastric and small intestinal absorption.
Approved for use in feed in the EU, the US, China, and other major livestock markets.
Where it is used
- Layer feeds where dietary electrolyte balance is critical for shell quality
- Broiler breeder programs targeting both gut health and skeletal calcium contribution
- Piglet starters and weaners as an alternative to sodium butyrate
- Calf starter feeds for rumen and intestinal development
- Aquaculture feeds (finfish and shrimp)
- Companion animal therapeutic diets
- Component of mineral and gut health premixes
- Replacement for antibiotic growth promoters in AGP-restricted regions
