01 — Overview

Description

A spray-dried or vacuum-dried manuka honey powder standardized to defined methylglyoxal (MGO) content, the bioactive marker underlying the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) grading system used in the premium manuka honey trade.

Light tan to amber free-flowing powder with the characteristic earthy, slightly medicinal aroma of manuka honey. Spray-dried with food-grade carriers such as maltodextrin or modified starch to support dry-blend handling.

We supply manuka honey extract products from manufacturers and trading partners holding ISO, Halal, Kosher, GMP and other certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include MGO 100+, MGO 250+, MGO 400+, and MGO 550+ equivalents on the standardized powder. UMF documentation is available for products derived from UMF-certified source honey.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering MGO content by HPLC, moisture, sugar profile, microbiology, and heavy metals.

02 — Background

Introduction

Manuka honey is produced by honeybees from the nectar of the manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium), native to New Zealand and parts of southeastern Australia. The honey contains methylglyoxal (MGO) at concentrations far above conventional honeys, derived from non-enzymatic conversion of dihydroxyacetone present in manuka nectar.

The Unique Manuka Factor grading system was developed in the 1990s following clinical observations of antibacterial activity in manuka honey beyond that explained by hydrogen peroxide and osmotic effects alone. UMF rating correlates with MGO concentration: UMF 10+ corresponds to approximately MGO 263+, UMF 15+ to MGO 514+, and so on.

Spray-drying or vacuum-drying converts the viscous honey into a dry powder format suitable for dry-blend manufacturing in capsules, tablets, gummies, and instant beverages. Carrier systems typically include maltodextrin and modified starch at 10 to 30 percent of the finished powder.

Source authentication is important: the premium price of manuka honey has attracted significant adulteration risk in international trade, and reputable suppliers provide MGO, dihydroxyacetone, and pollen-analysis documentation supporting source authenticity.

Regulatory framework treats manuka honey and its derivatives as food and food supplement ingredients with broad acceptance. Antibacterial and wound-care claims are subject to medical device or pharmaceutical regulation when used in clinical applications.
