Description
Spray-dried, microencapsulated DHA algal oil in free-flowing powder form. Designed for incorporation into dry pet-food premixes, kibble inclusions, soft chews, treats, and tabletted pet supplements where free-flowing handling and protection from oxidation are required.
Off-white to cream-colored free-flowing powder. The microencapsulation matrix (typically modified starch with antioxidants) protects the DHA core from oxygen, moisture, and light during shelf life and through pet-food processing.
We supply pet-grade DHA Algal Oil Powder from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Cold-water-dispersible, hot-water-dispersible, and direct-blend formats available on request.
Common market grades include 10 percent DHA loading (standard dry-blend grade), 20 percent DHA loading (high-active concentrate for premium positioning), and non-GMO and organic-certified variants.
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering DHA loading, oxidative stability indices, moisture, particle size, heavy metals, and microbiology.
Introduction
DHA Algal Oil Powder is a spray-dried microencapsulated form of the same Schizochytrium-derived DHA oil used in liquid pet supplements. Microencapsulation is the standard solution for incorporating an oxidation-sensitive omega-3 oil into dry-format pet foods, where direct oil addition is not compatible with extrusion conditions or downstream blending and tableting.
The encapsulation matrix is typically modified starch (often OSA-modified or maltodextrin-based) combined with antioxidants such as tocopherols and ascorbyl palmitate. The resulting powder protects the DHA core from oxygen, moisture, light, and elevated temperatures during transport, storage, and finished-product processing.
Active DHA loading on a per-gram basis is typically 10 percent for cost-sensitive applications and 20 percent for premium positioning. The trade-off between loading and oxidative stability is part of the formulation decision: higher loading concentrates more active per gram but provides less encapsulation barrier per unit of active.
Regulatory status in pet food is established under AAFCO algal-oil and microencapsulated-ingredient categories in North America and under corresponding frameworks in the EU, UK, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The encapsulation carrier is declared on the finished pet-food ingredient panel per applicable labeling rules.
Where it is used
- Dry kibble and extruded pet-food premix DHA fortification for puppies, kittens, and senior pets
- Soft chews, dental chews, and freeze-dried treats carrying DHA and cognitive-support claims
- Premium puppy and kitten growth formulas; DHA supports neural and retinal development
- Senior-dog and senior-cat cognitive-support functional diets
- Pregnancy and lactation support diets for breeding bitches and queens
- Hypoallergenic and limited-ingredient diet (LID) DHA fortification for fish-allergic pets
- Pet vitamin and mineral premix incorporation where direct oil handling is not practical
- Tableted and capsule-format pet supplements requiring free-flowing dry actives
