01 — Overview

Description

A microencapsulated, spray-dried powder of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) oil enriched in diglycerides (DAG) through controlled enzymatic interesterification, then encapsulated in a sodium caseinate or modified-starch wall matrix.

Off-white to pale yellow free-flowing powder with neutral aroma. Oil load typically 50% to 70% by weight. DAG-enriched lipid structure shows reduced postprandial triglyceride response in clinical studies compared with conventional triglyceride flaxseed oil.

We supply food-grade Flaxseed Oil Diglyceride Powder from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Non-GMO and allergen-free wall-material options are available.

Common market grades include 50% Oil Load (standard for dry blends), 60% Oil Load (premium for supplement use), and 70% Oil Load (high-payload for capsule and tablet applications). DAG content can be customized from 40% to 70%.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering ALA content, DAG content, oil load, peroxide value, moisture, heavy metals, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Flaxseed oil is one of the richest plant sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, C18:3 omega-3), typically containing 50% to 60% ALA on a fatty acid basis. The oil's commercial limitation is oxidative instability: free flaxseed oil rancidifies rapidly even under refrigeration.

Microencapsulation addresses this limitation by trapping oil droplets within a protein or carbohydrate wall matrix during spray drying. Oxygen diffusion is restricted, light exposure is minimized, and the resulting powder achieves shelf lives of 18 to 24 months at room temperature compared with weeks for liquid oil.

The diglyceride enrichment step represents a separate functional intervention. Enzymatic interesterification of the triglyceride feedstock converts a fraction of the lipid to 1,3-diacylglycerols, which follow a distinct absorption and metabolic pathway: 1,3-DAGs are hydrolyzed at the sn-1 position to yield free fatty acids and 2-monoacylglycerols that are less efficiently re-esterified into chylomicron triglycerides. The net effect is a lower postprandial triglyceride peak.

Regulatory status follows the underlying flaxseed oil (recognized as Generally Recognized as Safe in the U.S., permitted as a food ingredient in the EU and China) and the encapsulation materials (which are themselves approved food ingredients). DAG oils have been marketed in Japan, the U.S., and Europe as functional foods, with the principal commercial DAG cooking oil reaching peak sales above USD 200 million annually in Japan.

Strategic positioning combines three claims that are difficult to deliver in any single conventional ingredient: vegan omega-3, oxidative stability for dry-blend formulation, and a structured-lipid functional benefit.

03 — Applications

Where it is used

  • Plant-based omega-3 supplements positioned as a vegan alternative to fish oil
  • Functional foods and bars where flaxseed oil flavor and oxidation would be problematic in conventional liquid form
  • Infant and toddler nutrition blends; ALA contributes to nervous-system development
  • Weight-management functional foods built on the DAG postprandial-lipid evidence base
  • Dry beverage premixes, instant powders, and meal-replacement shakes
  • Sports nutrition recovery formulas as a plant omega-3 carrier
  • Direct-compression tablets and chewable nutrition products
  • Pet food and pet supplements for skin, coat, and cardiovascular support
  • Bakery and snack applications where extended shelf life is required
