The acetate ester of synthetic DL-alpha-tocopherol, providing oxidatively-stable Vitamin E with extended shelf life compared with the free alcohol. Liquid form for ease of dispersion in oil phase formulations. Hydrolyzed in vivo to release active tocopherol.
Pale yellow to amber clear viscous liquid. Soluble in fats, oils, and food-grade ethanol; insoluble in water. More oxidatively stable than free tocopherol because the acetate group blocks the phenolic hydroxyl that would otherwise react with oxygen during storage.

Introduction
Tocopheryl Acetate (also called Vitamin E Acetate) is the acetate ester of alpha-tocopherol, produced by acetylation of either natural or synthetic alpha-tocopherol. The synthetic form (DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, also written as all-rac-alpha-tocopheryl acetate) is a racemic mixture of eight stereoisomers and is the dominant form in commercial use because of substantially lower cost compared with natural D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate.
The ester linkage blocks the phenolic hydroxyl group that is responsible for the antioxidant activity of free tocopherol. This means Tocopheryl Acetate is essentially inactive as an antioxidant in food and cosmetic matrices, but the ester is hydrolyzed in vivo (by esterases in the gut and skin) to release active tocopherol. The trade-off is oxidative stability during storage versus immediate antioxidant function during shelf life.
Regulated for food and cosmetic use in essentially all major markets. Listed in BP, USP, EP, and JP pharmacopoeias. Recommended Dietary Allowance for Vitamin E (as alpha-tocopherol equivalents) is 15 mg per day for adults.
Strategic position differs sharply from Mixed Tocopherols Concentrate: Tocopheryl Acetate is the preferred form for Vitamin E nutritional fortification and cosmetic applications where storage stability is the priority, while Mixed Tocopherols Concentrate is the preferred form for food and feed antioxidant function where active radical-scavenging during shelf life is the priority.
