Description
A non-protein amino acid that functions as the principal inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system. Used in supplements positioned for relaxation, stress reduction, and sleep support.
White to off-white crystalline powder. Highly water-soluble. Stable through tableting and granulation processes.
We supply food-grade GABA from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Produced by fermentation using Lactobacillus or Aspergillus strains, or by chemical synthesis. Fermentation-derived material commands a premium for clean-label positioning.
Common market grades include synthetic GABA 99%, natural fermentation-derived GABA (PharmaGABA-equivalent), and instant-soluble grades for beverage and stick-pack applications.
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering assay, optical purity (the fermentation form is biologically chiral-pure), heavy metals, and microbiology.
Introduction
GABA was first synthesized in 1883 and identified as a central-nervous-system neurotransmitter in 1950 by Eugene Roberts and Jorge Awapara working independently. It binds GABA-A and GABA-B receptors, producing the inhibitory currents that constitute the principal calming influence on neuronal activity.
The question of oral GABA bioavailability has been debated for decades because the molecule does not readily cross the blood-brain barrier. Clinical evidence nonetheless supports relaxation and stress-reduction effects, attributed partly to peripheral GABA receptor activity and partly to vagal pathways from the gut.
Fermentation-derived material, produced by Lactobacillus during traditional fermentation of foods including kimchi and certain teas, is positioned in premium clean-label and natural supplement segments. Synthetic material is significantly lower in cost and dominates volume in mainstream supplement applications.
Typical adult dosing ranges from 100 mg to 750 mg, taken 30 to 60 minutes before the intended effect. Higher doses may produce mild tingling at the face or scalp without other adverse effects.
