01 — Overview

Description

A refined body oil from Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) processing co-products, carrying the native salmon fatty acid profile of EPA, DHA, oleic acid, and palmitic acid alongside traces of naturally occurring astaxanthin from the fish diet.

Pale yellow to red-tinted clear oil with a characteristic mild marine note. EPA and DHA levels are lower than concentrated fish oils but the oil is differentiated by the salmon source positioning, the natural astaxanthin pigment, and a balanced fatty acid profile that closely matches dietary intake from whole salmon consumption.

We supply food-grade and feed-grade Salmon Oil from manufacturers in China and Nordic-sourced refiners, holding ISO, Halal, Kosher, BAP, ASC, and GOED certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include Human-Grade Refined Salmon Oil (food and supplement use), Pet-Grade Refined Salmon Oil (pet food and pet supplement use), and Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil (premium positioning, wild-harvest documentation).

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering fatty acid profile (GC), astaxanthin, peroxide value, anisidine value, totox, heavy metals, dioxins and PCBs, ethoxyquin residue, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) is the most commercially farmed marine fish, with global production exceeding 2.7 million tonnes annually. Salmon processing generates substantial co-product streams (heads, frames, trimmings, viscera) that are rendered into salmon meal and salmon oil, products that supply both the aquaculture feed industry (closing the salmon-to-salmon nutrient loop) and the human supplement market.

Modern salmon oil production uses gentle thermal rendering followed by centrifugal separation, water washing, and steam deodorization. Refining standards have improved substantially over the past two decades in response to consumer demand for low-contaminant marine oils, and BAP-certified and ASC-certified salmon oil now meets the same heavy metal and dioxin specifications as anchovy-derived fish oil.

The native fatty acid profile carries roughly 8% to 13% EPA, 9% to 15% DHA, 15% to 20% oleic acid, and 10% to 16% palmitic acid. The oil also carries a small but measurable astaxanthin content (from the salmon diet) that gives premium grades a faint pink tint.

Regulatory status follows refined fish oil. Salmon oil is recognized as Generally Recognized as Safe in the U.S., approved as a conventional food in the EU, and permitted under Chinese health food regulations.

Commercial positioning differentiates salmon oil from anchovy-based fish oil through species identity (salmon is the most consumer-recognized omega-3 source globally), natural astaxanthin content, and wild-Alaskan or BAP-certified-farm sustainability narratives. The pet supplement segment alone represents the majority of salmon oil consumption by volume.
