01 — Overview

Description

An essential amino acid and the third-highest-volume commercial amino acid globally after L-glutamic acid and L-lysine. The dominant application is animal feed, where threonine is the second or third most-limiting amino acid in corn-soy diets.

White crystalline powder. Highly water-soluble.

We supply feed-grade, food-grade, and pharmaceutical-grade L-Threonine from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include Feed Grade 98.5 percent (the dominant volume application), Food Grade FCC compliant, and Pharmaceutical Grade meeting BP/USP/EP/JP specifications.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering assay, specific rotation, related amino acids, heavy metals, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

L-Threonine is an essential amino acid and the third commercial amino acid by global production volume. The amino acid is the second or third most-limiting in corn-soy livestock diets after lysine, making industrial threonine fortification essential alongside lysine in modern feed manufacturing.

Industrial production proceeds by submerged aerobic fermentation using engineered Escherichia coli strains. Production capacity has scaled substantially since 2000 driven by livestock industry demand.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide. Listed in BP, USP, EP, and JP pharmacopoeias.

The animal feed application accounts for approximately 90 percent of global threonine demand. Threonine fortification typically appears in feed formulations at 0.1 to 0.3 percent inclusion, balancing the amino acid profile against lysine and methionine to maximize protein utilization efficiency.

Strategic positioning is dominated by animal feed nutrition. Human applications represent a small but stable category for clinical and infant nutrition.

03 — Applications

Where it is used

  • Animal feed: poultry, swine, and aquaculture fortification; the dominant single application globally
  • Pharmaceutical applications: parenteral nutrition formulas
  • Infant formula and clinical nutrition fortification
  • Dietary supplements: general amino-acid and recovery supplements
  • Pet food fortification
  • Specialty pharmaceutical research applications
