01 — Overview

Description

Inactivated whole-cell Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast, the original natural palatability enhancer and B-vitamin source in dog and cat food formulation. Continues to be the single most widely recognized pet-food ingredient by consumers in premium and natural-positioned diets.

Fine cream-colored to light-brown powder with a characteristic umami, savory aroma that drives strong dog and cat acceptance. Approximately 45 to 50 percent crude protein, naturally rich in B-complex vitamins, beta-glucans, mannan-oligosaccharides, and free nucleotides.

We supply pet-grade Brewer's Yeast from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Primary-grown (yeast grown specifically for food and feed use) and brewery-byproduct (debittered) grades available.

Common market grades include primary-grown food and feed grade at 45 to 50 percent protein, brewery-byproduct debittered grade, GMP-grade for premium pet supplements, and selenium-enriched and chromium-enriched specialty derivatives.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering protein, ash, moisture, B-vitamin content, beta-glucan-cosmetic-grade-oat" class="underline" style="color: var(--sage-deep); text-decoration-color: var(--sage-deep);">beta-glucan content where claimed, heavy metals, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Brewer's yeast originated as a brewing-industry coproduct: the inactivated yeast biomass recovered after fermentation of beer, debittered to remove hop residues, and dried for use as feed and food. Today the pet-food industry primarily uses primary-grown yeast cultivated specifically for nutritional applications on molasses or grain substrates, with consistent composition and no beer-process residues.

Nutritional composition is unusually dense for a single ingredient: 45 to 50 percent crude protein with a well-balanced amino acid profile, 5 to 7 percent fat, naturally occurring B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, B12 (depending on substrate), beta-glucans at roughly 25 to 35 percent of dry matter, mannan-oligosaccharides, and a measurable contribution of free nucleotides and glutamate that drives palatability.

In dog and cat applications brewer's yeast is the prototype natural palatant, recognized for over a century of practical use. Modern hydrolyzed-protein digests are more concentrated palatability enhancers per gram, but brewer's yeast remains the recognized-on-label option for natural and clean-label pet diets.

Regulatory status in pet food and feed is well-established under AAFCO ingredient definition 96.5 in North America and corresponding categories in the EU FEED REGISTER (functional category: sensory additives, palatability enhancers; or nutritional additives) and in Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

03 — Applications

Where it is used

  • Natural palatability enhancer in dry kibble, semi-moist, and treat formats for dogs and cats
  • Topical kibble coating systems alongside fats and digest hydrolysates for premium dog food
  • B-complex vitamin enrichment of natural and organic pet diets without synthetic vitamin declarations
  • Coat and skin health supplements for dogs; biotin and B-vitamin contribution
  • Flea-repellent positioning in natural pet supplements (consumer-recognized traditional use, not a regulated claim)
  • Beta-glucan and MOS source for immune-supporting and gut-health pet formulations
  • Senior-dog and senior-cat appetite stimulation in formulations where intake support is a design goal
  • Functional treats, dental chews, and soft chews positioned around natural ingredients
  • Horse feed palatability and B-vitamin support, especially during high-stress training periods
