Introduction
Sea Buckthorn has been used in Tibetan, Mongolian, and Russian traditional medicine for over 1,000 years for cardiovascular, skin, and digestive complaints. The plant is a hardy shrub native to cold-climate mountain regions across Eurasia, producing bright orange berries with exceptional nutrient density.
Industrial production for the flavonoid extract proceeds by ethanol extraction of dried Sea Buckthorn berries, followed by purification and standardization. Sea Buckthorn oil is produced separately by cold-pressing or supercritical CO2 extraction of the berry pulp or seeds.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide.
The flavonoids have antioxidant and capillary-protective activities. The omega-7 palmitoleic acid is uniquely concentrated in Sea Buckthorn berry pulp oil and has clinical evidence for mucosal-health endpoints including dry-eye and metabolic markers.
Strategic positioning combines cardiovascular-support supplements (the flavonoid-driven segment), skin-health and beauty-from-within products (the omega-7-driven premium segment), and superfruit-positioning functional foods.
