Description
Milk Protein Isolate (MPI) is the high-purity counterpart of MPC, produced by deeper ultrafiltration and diafiltration of skim milk, delivering 90 percent protein on a dry basis while retaining the native 80:20 casein-to-whey ratio.
Protein content of 90 percent minimum (Kjeldahl, N x 6.38) is the defining commercial parameter. Light cream to off-white free-flowing powder with clean dairy flavor. Lactose content is typically below 1 percent.
The amino acid profile is complete (PDCAAS 1.0) with the native milk casein-whey ratio preserved, producing a sustained-release amino acid profile suited to overnight nutrition and prolonged fasting windows.
We supply food-grade MPI from manufacturers in China holding ISO, HACCP, Halal, Kosher, and other certifications relevant to the product and production.
Common market grades include standard MPI 90, instantized MPI for rapid dispersion, and high-solubility MPI variants engineered for acidic beverage systems. Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering protein, moisture, fat, lactose, ash, heavy metals, and microbiology.
Introduction
Milk Protein Isolate is a relatively recent commercial category, scaling in the 2010s as RTD protein beverage formulators sought a single ingredient that delivered high protein, low lactose, native casein-whey ratio, and stable heat-treatment behavior.
Manufacturing follows the MPC route but with more aggressive diafiltration to reduce lactose and minerals to isolate-level specifications. The retentate is then evaporated and spray-dried. Process refinements are continuously developed to manage casein micelle integrity and heat stability during UHT processing.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, regulated under EU dairy ingredient frameworks, and approved by Codex Alimentarius for milk protein products in standardized compositions.
Amino acid quality positioning is identical to native milk at the highest commercial purity. The combination of native casein micelle structure and 90 percent protein content makes MPI particularly suited to heat-stable, neutral-pH RTD protein beverages, a category that grew explosively through the 2020s.
Strategic positioning: MPI sits at the premium end of milk protein ingredients alongside WPI and the caseinates, valued for its native protein composition, low lactose, and heat stability under UHT and retort processing.
