01 — Overview

Description

A non-essential amino acid involved in protein synthesis, neurotransmitter biosynthesis, and lipid metabolism. Used in pharmaceutical applications, cosmetic skincare, dietary supplements, and as the precursor for phosphatidylserine.

White crystalline powder. Highly water-soluble.

We supply food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade L-Serine from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include Standard Food Grade (FCC compliant), Pharmaceutical Grade meeting BP/USP/EP/JP specifications, and Cosmetic Grade for premium skincare applications.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering assay, specific rotation, related amino acids, heavy metals, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

L-Serine is a non-essential amino acid that the body produces from glycolytic intermediate 3-phosphoglycerate. The molecule plays critical roles in glycine biosynthesis, phospholipid synthesis (particularly phosphatidylserine), and one-carbon metabolism.

Industrial production proceeds by submerged aerobic fermentation using engineered Corynebacterium glutamicum or Escherichia coli strains.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide. Listed in BP, USP, EP, and JP pharmacopoeias.

The most distinctive commercial application is in cosmetic skincare, where L-Serine serves as a key component of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF) blend that mimics the amino-acid composition of healthy skin. Cosmetic-grade L-Serine commands a meaningful premium over food-grade material.

Strategic positioning serves cosmetic skincare (the premium-positioning application), pharmaceutical and clinical nutrition, supplement applications including phosphatidylserine precursor manufacturing, and specialty industrial uses.

03 — Applications

Where it is used

  • Cosmetic skincare: moisturizers, anti-aging serums, and natural-moisturizing-factor (NMF) formulations
  • Dietary supplements: cognitive-support and brain-health formulations (often as Phosphatidylserine precursor)
  • Pharmaceutical applications: parenteral nutrition and clinical nutrition
  • Sports nutrition: recovery and muscle-support formulations
  • Manufacturing feedstock for D-Cycloserine antibiotic synthesis
  • Specialty research and analytical applications
  • Pet food and animal nutrition applications
