01 — Overview

Description

Hydrolyzed Porcine Collagen is a Type I collagen peptide produced by enzymatic hydrolysis of porcine skin, delivering low-molecular-weight peptides with high cold-water solubility and minimum 90 percent protein on a dry basis. Porcine skin collagen is the closest structural analog to human collagen and has the longest clinical research history in functional collagen science.

Protein content is 90 percent minimum (Kjeldahl, N x 5.55), with average molecular weight typically 2,000 to 5,000 Da for premium peptide grades. Light yellow to off-white free-flowing powder with neutral to mild characteristic flavor.

The amino acid profile follows the collagen signature: glycine and proline dominant, with hydroxyproline as the diagnostic amino acid. Porcine collagen carries the highest content of native bioactive peptide precursors among the three major collagen sources (bovine, porcine, marine) on a comparable extraction basis.

We supply food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade Hydrolyzed Porcine Collagen from manufacturers in China holding ISO, HACCP, Kosher, and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Note: Halal certification is not available for porcine-derived material.

Common market grades include standard 90 percent protein hydrolysate at 3,000 to 5,000 Da, premium 2,000 Da grades for clinical and cosmetic applications, instant cold-soluble formats for beverages, and high-purity grades for pharmaceutical excipient and wound-care use. Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering protein, molecular weight, hydroxyproline, heavy metals, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Porcine collagen has been the dominant source of clinical and pharmaceutical collagen in Europe and East Asia for decades. The early clinical research underpinning the collagen-peptide category was conducted predominantly on porcine peptides in Germany and Japan in the 1990s and 2000s.

Manufacturing starts from porcine skin (a by-product of the pork industry). The skin is cleaned, defatted, alkali- or acid-pretreated to swell the collagen, and thermally extracted to gelatin. The gelatin is then enzymatically hydrolyzed with food-grade proteases to a target molecular weight profile, deodorized, filtered, evaporated, and spray-dried to fine powder.

Regulated as a permitted food ingredient under U.S. FDA GRAS provisions, regulated under EU food law, and free of the BSE concerns associated with bovine material. Religious dietary acceptability is the principal commercial limitation: porcine collagen is not Halal-acceptable.

Amino acid quality positioning: porcine Type I collagen is the closest structural and amino acid analog to human Type I collagen among commercial sources, which is the basis of its long-running preference in clinical and cosmetic peptide research.

Strategic positioning: porcine collagen serves Western, Latin American, and East Asian markets where Halal compliance is not required and clinical-research heritage is valued. It carries a modest price discount to bovine collagen on equivalent specifications.
