D-Aspartic Acid is the D-enantiomer of Aspartic Acid, produced by enzymatic resolution of DL-Aspartic Acid or by direct enzymatic synthesis using D-amino acid aminotransferase. The compound occurs naturally in the pituitary gland and testes at low concentrations.

Commercial interest emerged in the 2000s following research suggesting that D-Aspartic Acid plays a role in testosterone biosynthesis regulation. Sports supplements marketed for testosterone support and bodybuilding became the dominant commercial application.

Regulatory status varies by jurisdiction. Sold widely as a dietary supplement, though clinical evidence for the testosterone-support claims in healthy non-deficient men remains mixed.
