01 — Overview

Description

A natural silica concentrate extracted from the nodes and exudate (tabashir) of bamboo species, primarily Bambusa vulgaris and Bambusa arundinacea. Marketed both as an anti-caking ingredient for clean-label powders and as a nutraceutical source of bioavailable silicon.

Off-white to pale yellow fine powder. Silicon dioxide content ranges from 70 to 75 percent in standard extracts, with the balance comprising plant fiber, minerals, and small organic components that distinguish bamboo silica from synthetic amorphous silica.

We supply Bamboo Silica from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Organic-compliant grades are available on request.

Common market grades include 70 percent silica standard, 75 percent silica concentrate, 50 percent silica for cost-sensitive supplements, and Tabashir-grade for premium ayurvedic and traditional Asian wellness products.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering silica content, heavy metals, pesticide residues, microbiology, and identity testing.

02 — Background

Introduction

Tabashir, the silica concretion formed inside bamboo internodes, has been used in ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years for respiratory, joint, and connective-tissue applications. Modern Bamboo Silica products extend this traditional use into supplement and clean-label food formats.

Production methods vary by manufacturer. Tabashir-grade material is harvested directly from bamboo internodes and milled. Higher-volume grades use whole bamboo stems and leaves, processed through aqueous extraction, alkaline hydrolysis, or controlled combustion followed by silica recovery. Final products are standardized by silicon dioxide content.

Bamboo Silica is recognized as a permitted food ingredient in most major markets and is sold under conventional food and dietary supplement frameworks rather than as an E-numbered additive. Anti-caking use parallels regulatory pathways for diatomaceous earth and synthetic silica.

The functional mechanism in finished powders is similar to synthetic Silicon Dioxide: high-surface-area particles absorb moisture and prevent caking. The clean-label and natural-source positioning is the dominant commercial driver; technically pure synthetic silica delivers similar anti-caking performance at lower cost.

Strategic positioning: Bamboo Silica is the natural-source counterpart to E551 for brands that need an anti-caking solution compatible with organic, non-GMO, and clean-label certifications. Specification work should focus on silicon dioxide percentage and on identity testing to confirm botanical origin.
