01 — Overview

Description

A whole-rhizome standardized extract from turmeric (Curcuma longa) containing both the curcuminoid polyphenol fraction and the turmerone-class volatile oils. Distinct from isolated Curcumin in that the whole-rhizome extract preserves the synergistic volatile oils that some research suggests improve curcuminoid bioavailability and contribute distinct biological activity.

Yellow to orange-yellow free-flowing powder. Partial water solubility; the curcuminoid fraction is poorly water-soluble while the volatile oils contribute aroma and partial lipid-solubility.

We supply food-grade Turmeric Extract from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Organic-certified grades are available.

Common market grades include 5 percent Curcuminoids (whole-rhizome grade with preserved volatile oils), 10 percent Curcuminoids (standard supplement grade), 20 percent Curcuminoids (premium grade), and 50 percent Curcuminoids (high-end concentrated grade). For greater than 95 percent curcuminoid content, refer to the separate isolated Curcumin product.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering total curcuminoids (HPLC), turmerone content, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Turmeric has been used in Ayurvedic medicine and South Asian cuisine for over 4,000 years. Whole-rhizome turmeric extracts preserve a broader phytochemical profile than isolated curcumin, including the turmerone-class volatile oils (ar-turmerone, alpha-turmerone, beta-turmerone) that contribute the rhizome's characteristic aroma and additional biological activity.

Industrial production proceeds by hot-water or hydroalcoholic extraction of dried turmeric rhizome, followed by concentration and spray-drying to defined curcuminoid content. Whole-rhizome extracts retain meaningful turmerone content; isolated curcumin grades remove the volatile oils during purification.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA (GRAS), the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide. Turmeric is regulated as E100 in the EU as a natural food colorant.

Clinical evidence supports turmeric extract for osteoarthritis pain and inflammation markers at appropriate doses, with growing mechanistic interest in the turmerone fraction beyond the curcuminoids alone. Whole-rhizome formats are favored in some clinical programs that prioritize traditional preparation precedent over isolated-active reductionism.

Strategic positioning combines joint-health and anti-inflammatory dietary supplements, functional foods and golden-milk beverages (the fastest-growing segment), and premium clean-label applications where whole-rhizome positioning is part of the value proposition.
