02 — Background

Introduction

Scutellaria baicalensis has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years for inflammation, liver complaints, and immune-related conditions. The plant is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of Chinese herbalism.

Industrial production proceeds by hot-water and ethanol extraction of dried Scutellaria roots, followed by chromatographic purification and standardization to defined baicalin content.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA (GRAS), the European Food Safety Authority (under specific authorization), and equivalent regulators worldwide.

Baicalin and baicalein have well-documented anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities in cell-culture and animal models, with emerging human clinical evidence supporting immune-modulation and metabolic-health applications. The compounds are also under active pharmaceutical research for oncology and inflammatory disease applications.

Strategic positioning combines dietary supplements (the volume application), traditional medicine products, and pharmaceutical research applications.
