01 — Overview

Description

Finely milled crystalline sucrose blended with a small fraction of cornstarch (typically 2 to 5 percent) as an anti-caking and flow agent. The standard form of icing sugar used in bakery and confectionery decoration.

Fine white powder, free-flowing and ready for direct use. The anti-caking starch prevents lump formation during storage and ensures consistent dispensing in industrial and bakery use.

We supply food-grade Powdered Sugar with anti-caking from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include 6X (standard icing sugar, approximately 80 to 100 mesh), 10X (extra-fine, approximately 200 mesh), and gluten-free formulations using tapioca or rice starch in place of cornstarch for celiac-conscious applications.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering sugar content, starch content, moisture, particle size distribution, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Powdered sugar with anti-caking starch is a centuries-old confectionery format that became standardized in industrial form during the late nineteenth century, when steam-driven milling allowed consistent fine particles and starch addition became routine.

Production is by milling refined granulated sucrose in a hammer or pin mill to the target fineness, followed by blending of food-grade cornstarch (or tapioca or rice starch for gluten-free grades). The starch absorbs residual moisture and physically separates sugar particles to prevent clumping.

Regulated as a sugar product in all major jurisdictions, with the starch addition declared on labels. Both sucrose and cornstarch are GRAS in the United States and approved food ingredients in the EU and other markets.

The 6X and 10X grading is a U.S. industry convention reflecting mill passes and final fineness, with 10X being the finest commercial grade and the preferred format for royal icing, fondant, and other decoration work where lump-free smoothness is essential.
