Introduction
Seabuckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) is a hardy thorny shrub native to mountainous and coastal areas of Europe and Asia. The plant has been used in traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine for over 1,000 years for cardiovascular, respiratory, and skin applications.
Industrial production for the flavone powder grade proceeds by hydroalcoholic extraction of dried Seabuckthorn leaf (the highest flavonoid source within the plant) or berry pomace, followed by purification, concentration, and spray-drying to defined flavonoid content. Organic certification requires extraction with food-grade ethanol or water only.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide.
Seabuckthorn flavonoids are dominated by isorhamnetin glycosides, with clinical evidence supporting cardiovascular endpoints including blood pressure, lipid markers, and endothelial function at appropriate doses.
Strategic positioning targets certified-organic and clean-label cardiovascular-support supplement applications, with growing functional beverage and cosmetic uptake.
