Introduction
Lion's Mane has been used in traditional East Asian medicine for centuries as both food and medicine for stomach health and longevity. The mushroom rose to global commercial prominence in the 2010s through nootropic and cognitive-enhancement positioning supported by emerging research on Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) stimulation.
Industrial production proceeds by cultivation of Lion's Mane fruiting bodies on hardwood or sterilized substrate, followed by hot-water and ethanol dual extraction. Premium grades use fruiting-body-only material; cost-effective grades may include mycelium grown on grain substrates.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient in most major markets; classified as a Novel Food in certain EU applications pending review.
