02 — Background

Introduction

Lily bulb has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 1,500 years for lung-nourishing, yin-tonifying, and calming applications. The herb is described in classical texts for treating insomnia, anxiety, dry cough, and emotional disturbance.

Industrial production proceeds by hot-water extraction of dried Lily bulbs, followed by purification and spray-drying. Premium grades undergo ethanol precipitation to concentrate the polysaccharide fraction.

Recognized as a permitted traditional medicine and food ingredient in China; consumed as a food in Asian cuisine for thousands of years.

The active compounds include immunomodulatory polysaccharides, steroidal saponins, and phenolic glycosides. Clinical evidence for calming and sleep-support applications remains limited but consumer demand in traditional medicine markets supports established product segments.

Strategic positioning combines traditional Chinese medicine product formulations (the dominant Asian market) and emerging calming-supplement and beauty-from-within applications globally.
