Description
A standardized extract from Black Currant (Ribes nigrum) fruit, principally standardized to anthocyanin content. Used in eye-health and vision-support dietary supplements, antioxidant supplement formulations, and as a natural red-to-purple colorant in premium food and beverage applications.
Reddish-purple to dark purple free-flowing powder. Highly water-soluble.
We supply food-grade Black Currant Extract from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Organic-certified grades are available.
Common market grades include 5 percent Anthocyanins (cost-effective baseline), 10 percent Anthocyanins (standard supplement grade), 25 percent Anthocyanins (premium grade), 30 percent Anthocyanins (high-end concentrated grade), and Freeze-Dried Whole Fruit Powder (clean-label superfood-positioning grade).
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering total anthocyanins (HPLC or UV), delphinidin and cyanidin profile, vitamin C content, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiology.
Introduction
Black Currant is among the highest natural sources of anthocyanins in the food supply, with concentrations rivalling blueberry and elderberry. The fruit's anthocyanin profile is dominated by delphinidin-3-rutinoside and cyanidin-3-rutinoside, a profile distinct from blueberry (which is dominated by malvidin) and supporting differentiated clinical-positioning claims.
Industrial production proceeds by acidic-water or hydroalcoholic extraction of fresh or frozen Black Currant fruit, followed by purification, concentration, and spray-drying to defined anthocyanin content. The fruit is widely cultivated in Europe (Poland, the UK, France) and increasingly in China.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide.
Clinical evidence for Black Currant anthocyanins in visual function and eye fatigue is among the strongest for fruit-derived anthocyanin extracts, supported by Japanese clinical research that has driven the substantial eye-health supplement category in Japan and other Asian markets. Cardiovascular and cognitive-support evidence is more preliminary but supports broader antioxidant supplement positioning.
Strategic positioning targets eye-health and antioxidant dietary supplements globally, with premium natural-colorant applications in food and beverage as a secondary commercial segment.
