Introduction
Goji (Wolfberry, gou qi zi) has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years for vision support, kidney tonification, and longevity. The fruit has emerged as a superfruit category leader in Western markets since the 2000s.
Industrial production proceeds by hot-water extraction of dried Wolfberry, followed by precipitation of polysaccharides with ethanol, chromatographic purification, and spray-drying to defined LBP content.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA (GRAS), the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide.
Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharide (LBP) is a complex glycoconjugate with documented immunomodulatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective activities in cell-culture and animal models. Clinical evidence in humans is mixed but supports immune-modulation and eye-health applications.
Strategic positioning combines traditional medicine applications (the established Asian market), functional food and superfruit positioning in Western markets, and eye-health supplement applications leveraging the natural zeaxanthin content.
