Description
A calcium phosphate salt with approximately 38 percent elemental calcium and 20 percent phosphorus, supplying two skeletal-building minerals in a single ingredient. Chemically the compound is a mixture closely related to hydroxyapatite, the principal mineral of bone.
White odorless powder, practically insoluble in water and freely soluble in dilute hydrochloric and nitric acids. Non-hygroscopic with excellent flow and anti-caking properties.
We supply food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade Tricalcium Phosphate from manufacturers in China holding ISO, FSSC 22000, Halal, Kosher, and other certifications relevant to the product and production.
Common market grades include Standard Food Grade for fortification and anti-caking use, USP/EP/JP/BP Pharmaceutical Grade for direct compression, Granulated DC grade for high-dose tablets, and ultrafine powder for spray-dried beverage and infant nutrition applications. Particle-size grades range from 100 mesh to ultrafine sub-micron.
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering assay, calcium content, phosphorus content, fluoride, heavy metals, and microbiology.
Introduction
Calcium and phosphorus are the two principal mineral constituents of bone and teeth in roughly a 2:1 ratio by mass, deposited in the form of hydroxyapatite. Adequate intake of both minerals together is essential for skeletal development in children and for maintaining bone density in adults. The combined approach makes Tricalcium Phosphate a natural fortification choice for products targeting bone health.
Industrial production proceeds by reaction of phosphoric acid with calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate under controlled conditions, followed by spray drying, milling, and classification to specified particle sizes. The commercial product is not a single stoichiometric compound but a defined mixture of calcium phosphates, predominantly hydroxyapatite-related phases, marketed under the name Tricalcium Phosphate by long-standing regulatory convention.
Regulated as E341(iii) in the EU as part of the calcium phosphates group, classified as Generally Recognized as Safe by the U.S. FDA under 21 CFR 184.1434, listed in USP, EP, JP, and BP pharmacopoeias, and approved by JECFA with a group Maximum Tolerable Daily Intake covering phosphate intake from all sources.
Compared to other calcium salts, Tricalcium Phosphate offers a high elemental calcium fraction (38 percent) alongside meaningful phosphorus (20 percent), giving the highest combined mineral payload per unit mass. Bioavailability is moderate and comparable to Calcium Carbonate, with gastric-acid dissolution required for absorption. The compound's other defining property is exceptional powder flow, which is why it dominates anti-caking applications in salt and powdered dairy at low inclusion.
The strategic position spans two distinct markets: high-payload bone-health fortification at higher inclusion, and functional anti-caking at low inclusion. Few mineral ingredients serve both roles, which underpins long-term volume in dairy, salt, and infant-nutrition formulation.
