Description
An isolated dibenzocyclooctadiene lignan from Schisandra chinensis fruit (wu wei zi), the principal pharmacopoeial marker compound for schisandra and the active most associated with the herb's hepatoprotective and cognitive-support research.
White to off-white crystalline powder. Insoluble in water; freely soluble in methanol, ethanol, and chloroform.
We supply food-grade Schizandrin from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Schisandrin B (gamma-schisandrin) is offered as a separate compound where the application requires it.
Common market grades include Schizandrin 5 percent / 20 percent / 50 percent / 90 percent / 98 percent (purification grades), Schisandrin B 98 percent (the pharmaceutical research grade), and standardized schisandra extracts at 2 percent and 5 percent total schisandrins (for cost-sensitive supplement applications).
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering schizandrin content (HPLC), schisandrin B where applicable, related lignans, residual solvents, heavy metals, and microbiology.
Introduction
Schisandra chinensis has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years and has been a focus of Soviet and Russian pharmaceutical research as an adaptogen since the 1950s. The principal pharmacopoeial marker compound schizandrin (also written schisandrin or schizandrol A) was isolated in 1961 and remains the dominant standardization marker for finished schisandra products.
Industrial production proceeds by ethanol extraction of dried Schisandra fruit, followed by chromatographic purification to yield isolated schizandrin at purities up to 98 percent. Yields are moderate (typically 0.3 to 0.8 percent of dried fruit), making the isolated compound a higher-value pharmaceutical-grade material than crude schisandra extracts.
Recognized as a permitted ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority (under specific authorization), and equivalent regulators worldwide. Listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia.
Strategic positioning targets the established liver-support supplement category and high-value cognitive-support and pharmaceutical-research applications where the isolated compound's price is supportable.
