Description
The standardized extract of Phellodendron amurense or P. chinense bark (huang bai, Amur cork tree), a secondary natural source of berberine and palmatine alkaloids. Used in stress-management, weight-management, and traditional Chinese medicine formulations.
Yellow to yellow-brown free-flowing powder. Limited water solubility for the alkaloid free base.
We supply food-grade Phellodendron Bark Extract from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production.
Common market grades include 4:1 to 20:1 herb-to-extract ratios (standard grades), 5 percent Berberine (the standardized supplement grade), 10 percent Berberine (premium grade), and patent-positioned premium grades including Relora (Phellodendron and Magnolia combination) for stress-management positioning.
Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering berberine content (HPLC), palmatine content, total alkaloids, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiology.
Introduction
Phellodendron (huang bai, Amur cork tree) has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years for heat-clearing, damp-resolving, and antimicrobial applications. The bark is among the principal cooling and drying herbs in classical TCM theory.
Industrial production proceeds by ethanol or hydroalcoholic extraction of dried Phellodendron bark, followed by purification and standardization to defined berberine content. Lower berberine yield than Coptis chinensis makes Phellodendron a secondary source in industrial berberine production.
Recognized as a permitted food ingredient in China and most Asian markets; sold as a dietary supplement in the U.S. and most other markets. Sustainability concerns around bark harvesting from older trees have led to plantation cultivation and quality-controlled supply chains.
Modern research has identified anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and cortisol-modulating activities for Phellodendron extract. The most commercially significant modern application is the Relora combination (Phellodendron and Magnolia) for stress-management positioning, supported by clinical trials showing cortisol-balancing effects.
Strategic positioning combines Traditional Chinese Medicine formula applications, stress-management supplements via Relora-style combinations, and secondary berberine-source applications.
