01 — Overview

Description

The standardized saponin fraction of Gynostemma pentaphyllum (jiaogulan, southern ginseng), a dammarane-type triterpenoid family structurally related to ginsenosides. Used in adaptogen, cardiovascular, and longevity-positioned dietary supplements.

Light yellow to yellow-brown free-flowing powder with slight bitter taste. Moderately water-soluble.

We supply food-grade Gypenoside from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production.

Common market grades include Gypenosides 40 percent (standard supplement grade), 80 percent (premium grade), 95 percent (high-end pharmaceutical grade), and standardized whole-leaf extracts at 10:1 and 20:1 herb-to-extract ratios for traditional jiaogulan-tea-style supplements.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering total gypenosides (UV and HPLC), characteristic saponin profile, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Gynostemma pentaphyllum has been consumed as a daily tea (jiaogulan) in the mountainous regions of southern China for centuries, with regional epidemiological observations of unusual longevity prompting investigation of the plant's bioactive constituents. The dammarane-type saponins isolated from the herb are structurally similar to ginsenosides, which accounts for the popular name 'southern ginseng' applied to jiaogulan.

Industrial production proceeds by hot-water and ethanol extraction of dried Gynostemma aerial parts, followed by adsorption chromatography to enrich saponin content and standardize to defined gypenoside levels.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority (under specific authorization), and equivalent regulators worldwide.

Strategic positioning combines the established adaptogen supplement category (where gypenoside competes alongside ashwagandha, rhodiola, and ginseng), cardiovascular-health applications supported by lipid-modulation research, and the premium herbal tea segment.
