01 — Overview

Description

The catechin-rich extract of Camellia sinensis leaves, the single most-researched botanical extract in modern nutritional science. Standardized to total catechins and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) content for use in weight-management, metabolic-health, antioxidant, and cosmetic applications.

Light yellow to brown free-flowing powder with characteristic mild tea aroma. Highly water-soluble.

We supply food-grade Green Tea Extract from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Decaffeinated grades are offered alongside caffeinated.

Common market grades include Total Polyphenols 50 percent (the entry-level), Catechins 50 percent / 60 percent / 80 percent / 90 percent / 95 percent (the principal commercial standardizations), EGCG 45 percent / 60 percent / 80 percent / 90 percent / 98 percent, and Decaffeinated grades (caffeine below 1 percent or below 0.5 percent) for jurisdictions and applications where caffeine is restricted.

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering total catechins, EGCG (HPLC), caffeine content, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Green tea consumption originated in China over 4,000 years ago. The modern green tea extract industry emerged in the 1980s following Japanese research identifying EGCG as the principal active catechin and the publication of large-scale epidemiological studies linking green tea consumption to reduced cardiovascular and cancer mortality.

Industrial production proceeds by hot-water extraction of dried green tea leaves, followed by membrane separation, decaffeination (where applicable, by supercritical CO2 or ethyl acetate), and adsorption chromatography to enrich catechin content.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA (GRAS), the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide. Multiple jurisdictions have issued specific guidance on maximum daily intake of EGCG (typically below 800 mg per day from supplements) following case reports of hepatic adverse events at very high doses, and reputable manufacturers provide caffeine-content and EGCG-content specifications that support compliant supplement formulation.

Strategic positioning leverages the unmatched body of clinical and epidemiological evidence supporting green tea catechins, covering weight management, cardiovascular health, oral health, and antioxidant positioning across supplement, food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical applications.
