02 — Background

Introduction

Asian Ginseng (Panax ginseng) has been the premier tonic herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 2,000 years and remains among the highest-value medicinal herbs by trade value globally. The plant is a slow-growing perennial requiring 5 to 6 years of cultivation before harvest.

Industrial production proceeds by ethanol or hydroalcoholic extraction of dried Ginseng roots, followed by purification and standardization to defined ginsenoside content. Red Ginseng is produced by steaming the fresh root, converting some ginsenosides to bioactive forms including ginsenoside Rg3.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide. The European Medicines Agency has issued monographs for Ginseng as a traditional herbal medicine for tiredness and weakness.

Clinical evidence supports modest effects on cognitive performance, immune markers, fatigue, and physical performance, with the strongest support for cognitive-performance endpoints in mild cognitive impairment populations.

Strategic positioning combines energy and adaptogen dietary supplements (the volume application globally), traditional Chinese medicine premium products, and functional beverage applications.
