01 — Overview

Description

A standardized extract from the root of greater burdock (Arctium lappa), containing inulin-type fructans, lignans (notably arctiin and arctigenin), and polyphenols. Used in detoxification supplements, prebiotic and digestive-health formulations, and skincare actives.

Light brown to brown free-flowing powder. Highly water-soluble.

We supply food-grade Burdock Root Extract from manufacturers in China holding ISO, Halal, Kosher and other certifications relevant to the product and production. Organic-certified grades are available.

Common market grades include 4:1 Concentration Ratio (standard supplement grade), 10:1 Concentration Ratio (premium grade), 1 percent Arctiin (lignan-standardized supplement grade), and 20 percent Inulin (prebiotic-positioned grade).

Bulk and reduced-MOQ shipments. Batch-level COA covering arctiin content (HPLC) or inulin content where applicable, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbiology.

02 — Background

Introduction

Burdock root has a long history in both Western herbal medicine (where it features in classical blood-purifying formulas) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (niu bang zi, used for respiratory and inflammatory conditions). The fresh root is also consumed as a vegetable in East Asian cuisine, particularly Japan (gobo).

Industrial production proceeds by hot-water extraction of dried, sliced burdock root, followed by concentration and either spray-drying for standard extracts or further purification for lignan-standardized or inulin-enriched fractions.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA, the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide as a traditional food source.

The lignan arctigenin has been studied for anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory activities. Inulin-type fructans support prebiotic positioning consistent with established health claims for fructan ingredients.

Strategic positioning combines traditional herbal medicine products, detoxification and skin-health supplements, and emerging prebiotic and digestive-health applications.
