02 — Background

Introduction

Ginger has been used as both spice and medicine across Asian, Middle Eastern, and European cultures for over 3,000 years for digestion, nausea, and respiratory complaints. Modern pharmacological characterization of gingerols and shogaols began in the mid-20th century.

Industrial production proceeds by supercritical CO2 or ethanol extraction of dried Ginger root, followed by purification and standardization to defined gingerol content.

Recognized as a permitted food ingredient by the U.S. FDA (GRAS), the European Food Safety Authority, and equivalent regulators worldwide. The WHO classifies Ginger as a monographed traditional medicine.

Clinical evidence for ginger in nausea applications is among the most robust for any natural-product supplement, supported by controlled trials in motion sickness, pregnancy-related nausea, and chemotherapy-induced nausea. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic applications have moderate clinical support for osteoarthritis and menstrual pain.

Strategic positioning combines nausea-relief supplements (the established evidence-supported application), anti-inflammatory formulations, and functional beverages.
